I think I’ve seen agape most in the love for our dogs and beloved animals. It seems as though since they are not at the same level of consciousness as us, we love them even deeper. Their livelihood relies on us and this dependency they have makes us love them even more unconditionally. This is also why I think cats are generally loved less than dogs because cats are slightly more self sufficient. They set boundaries and have limits, similar to people. But still we love dogs more? Why is that the general consensus of people seem to love dogs unconditionally even though they require much more work, yet only tolerate cats. This was never the case for me. I adored my cat. I loved her unconditionally despite her boundaries and her own little life. I just placed her ashes on my table so she’s even smaller than the day I first got her. I wouldn’t want to be loved the way people unconditionally love dogs. I want to be loved the way I loved my cat, to be loved unconditionally and have respected boundaries. Those two have never seemed to work together for me. My mother taught me this lesson, the same way hers did. I had to express my boundaries and she responded by cutting ties and spreading rumors, but it’s alright, although I wish my mother would love me despite it all, that’s not what she was taught. That’s not what I was taught but I learned it, so that this type of twisted love may never reach my daughter.
