Change by Big Thief
Agape, to love even when unreciprocated. To love despite the constant heartache of distance and the changing of the seasons. To love when you must close out a chapter with someone you thought would make it to the end of your story. To love regardless of the tears and the physical manifestations of grief. To mourn a string left uncut, yet no longer intertwined with yours. It’s difficult to leave out malice, especially when your defenses were torn away. But continuing to see the beauty of their perspective and their future, with or without you. Forgiving the hurt they inflicted and admitting to the harm you too spat out. I will always hold a place for my love, if she were ever to return. But I will not allow this experience to dim my capacity to love others in different forms. Agape is true acceptance. Love in all its messiness, its highs and lows. Love forever, because nothing else lasts that long.
